Bridge Watchkeeping for Ratings
This is a one-day course covering the basics of watchkeeping, including the role of
the lookout, lookout duties and responsibilities, steering orders, correct reporting of targets
using IMO Maritime English, identifying important lights, shapes, and buoys, and human factors such
as cultural diversity, communication, situational awareness, and challenge & response.
Stripes conveys critical aspects in simple ways to help participants understand the basics
of watchkeeping and their role on the bridge.
The course includes pictorial quizzes to keep the session lively and participants engaged.
It requires a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 participants.
